The gym is just about the safest place one can go to work extra fat off and to gain a couple of pounds of muscles. It is in the gym that one can lift heavy things without worrying about environmental hazards and it is there where the weights have already been carefully calibrated. The equipment are also designed to deliver the best results while retaining the safest form. But despite all the safety and benefits that the gym can bring, there are also a lot of injuries that can come from workouts. Here are the most common workouts that can happen inside the gym and how to avoid sustaining them:
One of the most common and really most easily sustained injury inside the gym while working out is muscle pulls. Pulling a muscle is fairly easy when doing rigorous exercises and lifting heavy weights. Most of the time, it is not really very serious and can resolve all by itself. There are also some times that they can turn into legitimate health concerns so they should be avoided at all cost. One of the most common cause of pulling a muscle is improper body movement. Not following how the body is meant to move, muscles tend to get strained unnecessarily. By doing proper body mechanics while working out, muscle pulls can be avoided. Proper body mechanics can involve maintaining proper posture while lifting and using the proper stance and form needed to do the workout.
Joggers and runners often come across ankle sprains at least once in their time training and working out. Doing cardio means that one must exercise in a very fast-paced manner but it doesn’t mean that proper form should not be observed. A lot of ankle sprains happen because of unnecessary putting weight on the ankle while doing sudden unnatural movements on the ankle. To avoid spraining the ankle, it is always best to start out slow when jogging or running. That way, the ankles tend to have enough time to adjust to the weight and the constant strain that is about to be put on them when running. It also helps to not suddenly change directions when running.
The knees are some of the most common areas of injury when working out. Just like the ankles, they have the burden of being joints that receive a large amount of weight from the entire body. The knees themselves are very strong, but sometimes the joint can get dislocated and the cartilage can get injured. Wearing something to support the knee helps prevent tearing of the ligaments and cartilage in it and also helps maintain its proper position and location. It is also very wise to avoid putting too much weight on the knees and to take breaks from running when needed.
Tearing of the muscles in the chest can also happen when doing bench presses and many times this happens also on other chest targeted workouts. Pectoral tear is when there is enough stress on the pectoral muscles that would illicit an injury. Sometimes this happens because of improper form and most of the times it is because of too much weight. To avoid this, proper weight should be maintained for the workout and if pressing heavier weight, finding someone to spot and assist would be ideal.
Lower Back Strain
The back is just about the most common site of injury when doing standing lifting exercises. There are so many times do people accidentally strain the muscles on their back because of improper form and motion. Lower back strain may be just an ordinary muscle pull or may even be a spinal injury. Because of this, much caution must be observed. Using of proper body mechanics should be done and the workout should only be done with the proper weights that one can lift. Using anything heavier than capable of lifting would almost absolutely end in injury.
Caution is a Must
When working out in the gym, it is really very important to do workouts that challenge the muscles, but it is much more important to keep the body away from injuries. When trying to keep fit, it is really a must to remember to have caution.
